Sigiriya is the one of the famous places in Sri Lanaka. King Kashyapa made this place protecting himself against his brother’s foray. Sigiriya was named as a world heritage in the world by UNESCO in 1982. The Sigiriya, also called fortress Sigiriya is located near the city of Dambulla – Sri Lanka. Unbelievable technology, wall arts and precinct show the unbounded adeptness of the ancient Sri Lankan.

History
The rock has become a rock fortress because of the battle between brothers King Kashyapa and King Moggallana. According to the history, the King Kashyapa the son by non-royal consort took the possession of throne from King Dhathusena following a coup. The actual heir King Kashyapa evaded to South India for fearing his life. Scaring for King Moggallana the actual heir, King Kashyapa decided to change the capital from Anuradhapura to Sigiriya and developed Sigiriya and surrounding environment into a secured place. Finally Moggallana came back and fought with Kashyapa for his rightful throne of Sri Lanka. It is said, the army belongs to Kashyapa evaded him and his kingdom during the battle with Mggallana and his army. Kashyapa had to commit suicide with his sword.

Beautiful sight on Sigiriya
Water Fountain: There can be seen number of Water Fountain on Sigiriya. This is a unbelievable technology used during construction of the city on Sigiriya rock.


City on the top: There is royal place and gardens planed in to square shaped.


Architecture: On the rock there are two parts (The western part and eastern part). There are a grand park, huge walls attached and moats in western area while gardens built in eastern area.


Graffiti: Graffiti contains reflections on it. The reflections are the thought of the peoples who visited the Sigiriya.


Mirror wall: The Mirror wall can be seen next to the Sigiri Maidens.


Arts: While walking on the Sigiriya, you can see the Arts of beautiful women. It is said the arts express the how much beautiful women lived in Kashyapa’s palace in his era.

Lion Claws

The Lion claws were constructed on both sides of the staircase. By erecting claws shows how much pride of King Kashyapa is. It is believed that the name Sigiriya derives with two names of Singha (Lion) and Giri (Rock).
